Aam r bora/Mango fritters

It seems just yesterday that I started writing this blog; from a dream that I always cherished to a Facebook page and finally to this blog. Just a blink of the eye and a year has already passed. The anniversary of my blog then calls for a celebration. Additionally, today also happens to be Raksha Bandhan.I could not have carried on with my journey without the constant help and support from my sister. We are two sisters. Not having a brother at home, my sister and I used to tie Rakhi to each other when we were young. Therefore, on this double occasion, I decided to prepare a dessert which is slightly different from the traditional desserts of Raksha Bandhan.

This celebration will be incomplete without my viewers, ones who offer silent support by expressing sincere interest in my work. My profession takes up a lot of my day’s time and sometimes I really struggle to keep my blog going. But, since the time I have begun, I have been working on my blog, in the recipes, writing, photographs etc. to keep you all interested. Finally, I will add, it is your love that inspires me to push myself a little harder and be better at what I essentially love doing.

I was upset, not able to prepare any mango recipe and put it on the blog. I mean a summer passes by and I do not put a mango recipe on the blog, was very disheartening. So, today I bring you the recipe of aam r bora. It is very easy to prepare but is delicious. These boras can be a perfect tea time snack or can be served just as a dessert.

Aam r bora

Cuisine: (Bengali)Indian

Preparation time: 10 mins

Cook time: 30 mins

Servings: 30 boras

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup of mango pulp (pulp from 1 mango)
  • 3/4 cup of whole wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons of semolina
  • 2 tablespoons of cornflour
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar (or according to sweetness of the mango)
  • 1 tablespoon of milk powder(optional, enhances the taste)
  • Oil for frying

Directions

  1. In a bowl take all the ingredients except the oil for frying.
  2. Now, mix them properly to make a smooth batter. (I managed to make a smooth batter with spoon. You can use whisk, electric batter or even clean hands)
  3. In a pan, take oil for deep frying and heat the oil.
  4. Once the oil is hot, gently drop a dollop of batter in hot oil (I have used two spoons to drop the batter in the oil)
  5. Fry the boras on low medium flame till one side turns golden or brown (as you prefer)
  6. Gently flip the boras to fry the other side.
  7. Once the boras are done, strain them from oil and keep them aside.
  8. Serve the boras hot, with a cup of steaming tea.

Notes

Do not overcrowd the pan. Fry in batches.
