Chhola Bhuna/Kala chana chat

Ingredients
- 2 cups soaked black chickpeas
- 1½ teaspoon of salt
- 3 tablespoon cooking oil
- 1 onion thinly sliced
- 1 potato chopped
- 2-3 green chilies chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon of whole cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon of ginger paste
- 1 teaspoon of garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon of red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon of cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon of coriander powder
- Salt to taste
- 2-3 bay leaves
- 1 small tomato chopped
- 1 teaspoon of garam masala powder (optional)
- 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh coriander leaves
Directions
- Cook the black chickpeas and potatoes in a pot with salt and water until soft. Be careful not to overcook them.
- In a kadai, heat oil. Once the oil is hot, temper the oil with bay leaves and cumin seeds.
- Now, add the sliced onions to the kadai and stir fry them.
- Add the chopped tomatoes, followed by ginger paste, garlic paste, green chilies, red chili powder, coriander powder and salt.
- Continue cooking with a splash of water till you see oil leaving the sides of the pan.
- Add the cooked black chickpeas along with the remaining water in the pot and the potatoes.
- Then add garam masala, and stir until all the water evaporates. (Takes 5-7 minutes)
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Enjoy!!!!
