Lachha Paratha

Lachha Paratha is a multi layered paratha or Indian bread which is shallow fried on pan or tava. It is a specialty of Punjab or Northern India. It can be easily prepared by following the step by step instructions given below

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of whole wheat flour
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of oil or ghee
  • Ghee or oil to apply on the dough and to make the paratha

Directions

  1. Take the whole wheat flour in a bowl.
  2. To it add salt and ghee/oil
  3. Gradually add water and knead to a soft dough and keep it covered aside for 30 minutes.
  4. Now, make medium size balls of the dough and keep aside.
  5. Take a dough ball and roll it to 6 inch disc(about the size of roti) on a dusted rolling board.
  6. Apply ghee and sprinkle some whole wheat flour on the disc.
  7. Now, from the edges start to fold and pleat the paratha.
  8. Roll the pleated paratha and join the edges properly.
  9. Lightly dust with whole wheat flour and roll the paratha to about 5 inch of diameter. Do not roll the parathas hard else you will lose all the layers.
  10.  Heat the tava and place the paratha once the tava is hot.
  11. Now, flip the paratha and add ghee or oil to the cooked side and flip again and add ghee to this side also.
  12. Flip the parathas few times till they are properly cooked.
  13. Serve the parathas hot with any Indian curry for example palak paneer , achar and onion.

Step by step instructions to prepare lachha paratha

Take the whole wheat flour in a bowl.
